Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival
1MALAYSIA MEGA SALE CARNIVAL
MALAYSIA MEGA SALE
After having been ranked by CNN as world’s fourth-best shopping destination, Kuala Lumpur is finally on the world
shopping map, right after big metropolitan cities such as New York, Tokyo and London. Surprising? We think not, and it’s easy to see why, as KL has legions of massive shopping centres and lively local markets all around the city stocking anything and everything under the sun – from international luxury brand name goods to the latest mobile phones. The Malaysian Ringgit also plays a big part of Kuala Lumpur’s attractiveness. Prices are low to suit the local market, and compared to the Aussie and US dollars, the ringgit is a much cheaper currency (often 1 AUD = 3 MYR July 2013).
Recognising this, the Malaysian Tourism Board has decided to step it up a notch by organising countrywide sales twice a year. The end of the first half of the year sees the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival, this year held on 29 June until 1 September 2013, with discounts up to 70%. This is an important time of the year, as locals flood the malls to grab shiny new purchases for upcoming festivals such as Hari Raya and Deepavali. Department stores are especially tempting, with unique shopping bags only for sale items, and Gift-With-Purchase offers such as limited edition makeup, handbags and clothing.
Besides great deals on various merchandise items, shoppers are also entitled to special offers from various credit card companies. For example, MasterCard awards selective cardholders with free vacations to luxury retreats around Malaysia for those who spend more than RM300 during the sale period. A special event called ‘BeJEWELLED’ is also organized for shoppers to take advantage of great gifts when shopping at select jewellery stores in Kuala Lumpur, so there is certainly no reason not to buy gifts for your loved ones back home if you’re around during this time of the year.
Furthermore, in conjunction with the mega sale, the annual KL International Fashion Week will be held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall to showcase some of the best local fashion to prospective buyers. Made-in- Malaysia designers such as Mimpikita, Syomir Izwa and PU3 will all grace the runways with their latest collections, and if you are interested in knowing more about the local fashion industry, spending an afternoon at the KL Fashion Week will give you an idea of what and where to shop. Where to go for great shopping
One of the most obvious places to hit during the sales is the. Bukit Bintang-KLCC strip, otherwise known as BBKLCC.
The BBKLCC is a duty-free shopping zone consisting of nine of the biggest shopping malls in the vicinity, all within walking distance of each other. With tourist privileges cards available at four of these malls, shoppers can expect many rewards, including special discounts and gifts when making purchases.
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – Designer, local fashion
Fahrenheit 88 (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – Youth fashion and lifestyle stores
Suria KLCC (LRT KLCC) – Luxury fashion at Petronas Twin Tower
Starhill Gallery (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – Luxury fashion
Sungai Wang Plaza (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – Youth fashion focused on trends from Korea and Japan
Plaza Low Yat (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – IT accessories and latest gadgets
BB Plaza (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – local boutiques with great bargains
Lot 10 (Monorail Bukit Bintang) – fashion stores with great food choices at the food court
Berjaya Times Square (Monorail Imbi) – Youth fashion with an indoor theme park
One Utama (LRT Kelana Jaya) – International mid-range brands
Sunway Pyramid – International mid-range brands interconnected with a sprawling theme park

Dubai on a Budget for Visitors
Dubai on a Budget for Visitors
So not everyone can afford or even wants to afford the 5 star luxury that Dubai is famed for! Whilst the posh hotels and beaches are great, there is another side to Dubai that need not cost a fortune.
Here’s our guide on budget friendly and really interesting things to do for tourist:
Budget Travel:
See most of Dubai and get your bearings- yes, you guessed it- get on the Metro- a day pass will only cost you 14 AED for all zones. Sit back and beat the traffic and get to grips with the layout of Dubai. You can hop on and off where you want too. Buses are cheap too- pick your time of day though or you may get stuck in traffic! Taxis are also not really exorbitant- so don’t be afraid to use them too. For example from the Sharjah border to Dubai Marina which is approx 25 km it would cost you around 100 AED and that is the longest trip you would probably make if at all!
Budget Beach:
Dubai has two beautiful, well-maintained beach parks- Jumeirah Beach Park and Al Mamzar Beach Park- they cost 5 dhs to get in to and the plus side is they have facilities such as toilets and food outlets. Mamzar Beach Park even has a huge swimming pool that is only 10 dhs to use. You’ll find drinks and ice creams are way cheaper here then your home country too- so have an ice cream break too without breaking your budget. There are still some free open beaches too- the most popular one is to the left of the Burj Al Arab. If you really would like to go to a waterpark in Dubai, Wild Wadi and Aquaventure are great places too.Budget Sight Seeing:
Old Dubai: For a flavour of what old Dubai was like head down to the creek area and soak up the atmosphere. Walk along the creek from the British Embassy and towards the sea direction. You’ll see all the abras (wooden boats) and head into the historical souks which have been rejuvenated to preserve them. Wander round the stalls- snack on samosas- then head for the Abra station- you can cross over to the other side of the creek for 2 AED. (If you do want to splash a bit you can get your own private abra for a tour for around 150 AED). On the other side of the creek is the gold and spice souk- look at the gold- do not buy- remember you are on a budget! Head back over to the other side of the creek again and there is a wonderful old cafe perched over the creek- you will have seen it from the abra- have a freshly made juice there and imagine the old days.
Plan ahead and map out what and where you are going to go and do- that is within your budget. If you are wandering around aimlessly you may end up somewhere you have to pay 25 AED for a bottle of water so a bit of prep will save you any money worries.
I hope you’ve found this guide useful and you and your visitors really enjoy the trip without it breaking the bank!
Thank You.

Visit Top 5 Safari in Africa
According to Go Africa travel guide, below are the top 5 Safari in Africa.
Kenya is Africa's most popular safari destination and the Masai Mara Reserve is the most popular wildlife park in Kenya. From July - October you can witness the incredible migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra. The Maasai tribesman also offer cultural tours which will enhance your experience.
Getty Images/Theo Allofs Chobe National park lies in Botswana's Okavango Delta
and covers four distinct Eco-systems. The Savuti marsh in particular offers some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa year round. Chobe boasts around 120,000 elephants, you're unlikely to miss them when you enjoy a safari here.
The best time to visit Chobe is between April and October, the dry, cooler winter months. Herds of zebra, eland, buffalo, giraffe and wildebeest congregate around the Savuti marsh this time of year. Chobe is accessible by car which makes it a little less expensive than some other Botswana Parks. There's a wide variety of accommodation available to suit all budgets, you can even rent a houseboat.
Kruger National Park in South Africa boasts the highest variety of wildlife in Africa which includes the Big Five, hippos, crocodiles, cheetah and more. Kruger is one of the best maintained parks in Africa which means it's ideal for a self-drive safari.
Home of the "walking safari" South Luangwa National Park in Zambia offers a true African experience. There's plenty
of wildlife and over 400 species of birds. The Luangwa river is filled to the brim with hippos and if you're lucky you'll spot prides of over 30 lions at a time. There are 60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species living in
the National Park. South Luangwa offers both budget and luxury safari lodging. The best time to visit is during the dry season from April to October. Near the end of the dry season, the animals really concentrate around the remaining
waterholes, which makes for a great safari.
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania offers the absolute classic African safari setting. The grasslands make the Serengeti fantastic for spotting lion kills because you can see the whole spectacle clearly. The migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra starts here and because it's much larger than the Mara (see above), it is also less touristy.

Facts you should know about Schengen Visa
Facts about Schengen Visa
The Schengen Visa has made traveling
between its 25 member countries (22
European Union states and 3 non-EU
members) much easier and less
bureaucratic. Traveling on a Schengen
Visa means that the visa holder can travel to any (or all) member countries using one single visa, thus avoiding the hassle and expense of obtaining individual visas for each country. This is particularly beneficial for persons who wish to visit several European countries on the same trip. The Schengen visa is a “visitor visa”. It is issued to citizens of countries who are required to obtain a visa before entering Europe. The purpose of the visit must be leisure, tourism, or business. Upon the issuance of the visa, the visa holder is allowed to enter all member countries and travel freely throughout the Schengen area. It is strongly recommended to plan your journey within the timeframe of the Schengen
Visa as extensions can be very difficult to obtain, thus forcing you to leave to stay in compliance with the Schengen rules and regulations. A Schengen visa allows the
holder to travel freely within the Schengen countries for a maximum stay of up to 90 days in a 6 month period.
The following 25 countries are Schengen Visa members:
1. Austria
2. Belgium
3. Czech Republic
4. Denmark
5. Estonia
6. Finland
7. France
8. Germany
